  That's before we get to the indignities of proving your relationship, the text messages to screenshot, the event tickets together, the wedding itself, every scrap of your life is peeled over by someone from Sodexo or Serco who is hating every moment. An utterly despicable process.

  Of course, then you have to go through ILR, which is another £3k, then citizenship which is another £2k. So, we're talking nearly £15k. You can also pay extra at each of these to fast track it, that's another £1k each time, so if it's urgent which it probably is because you're now married, £18k.

  So, my friend got married last year and to bring her spouse over it costs: £2k in visa fees, £2.5k in NHS surcharges, each of which only cover 2.5yrs so you have to pay both again to reach ILR, unless Shabana gets her way, when it will be 4 times. That's £9k for 5yrs with your spouse.

  Politically, I'm not a Meloni-fan at all. But with regard to Ukraine she remains very principled, despite a lot of pro-Putin or pro-Russia sentiment in Italy. One might even call this 'leadership'.
