    Mahmood plans an absolute dog's breakfast. The whole thing was originally undertaken to get rid of care workers, but they will now mostly get ILR after 5-year, while others wait 10. Inexplicable on moral or practical terms. Many refugees left without security basically indefinitely.

    As predicted, all coverage of Mahmood's immigration reforms is about u-turns and betrayals. The performative cruelty designed to grab headlines has been entirely ignored. All it will do is make vulnerable lives even more miserable. A total failure of compassion and morality, for absolutely nothing.
