I'm talking here of the publicly visible pattern of allowing departments to shoulder the costs of leadership direction. You can see it with Double Fine as another example: They were being encouraged to produce unique products for Game Pass vs high margin titles, and DF paid for it not Microsoft.

If there's any failure it's at the Microsoft leadership level in my opinion. The Coalition did their job well. I'll beat my drum all day that accountability in leadership is becoming vanishingly small.

Yeah, the team I knew at The Coalition are brilliant and very good at what they do. Love or hate the story and gameplay, I think they accomplished their end goals very well and delivered a great accomplishment in E-day.

So much of that cost is The Coalition being on the hook for the Microsoft branch of Unreal and one of the flagship titles. I should know, I tried to get leadership to support a plan to have other studios adopt it and write off the support costs. Same problem with Turn10 and ForzaTech.
