    And again: why doesn’t the institution just give more faculty lines to the history, poli science departments? They exist. If you want to the mission at face value, it is no different than the history or political science departments. So why aren’t the lines going to them?

    And if you argue that you need a civics center to promote “interdisciplinary” scholarship, you then have to explain why you aren’t directing the money to already existing campus humanities centers (which many campuses have in some form or another)

    The reason that you can’t ‘fix’ a right-wing civics center and redirect it to supporting normal humanities research and teaching based in peer-review is that the entire funding and ideological structures of these centers is meant to undermine peer-reviewed teaching and research. Abolish them.
