This is a situation where I completely believe the designers wrote it with the idea that most people will ignore this rule. It's a pretty heavy ask. And the tension between following and breaking it is far more interesting than just, "Hey this rule is annoying, let's change it."

I think about @juddthelibrarian.bsky.social's Dictionary of Mu, where you're supposed to write in the book and add entries that carry over between campaigns. Almost like a precursor for what would become legacy games in boardgaming.

I know a lot of people don't think MÖRK BORG is worth the hype, but I'll give it its flowers here. If you burn the book, that's a compelling end to a campaign that you'll never forget. If you don't burn your book, the book itself becomes something that's wrong, something cursed.

Let's spice it up. If you play MÖRK BORG and break the seventh seal, what happens if you don't burn your book? If you start a new campaign with the same book, are you still playing MÖRK BORG, or does taking the coward's way out mean that you're doing something fundamentally different?

"Some RPG rules are there for you to ignore." Okay, interesting... "In D&D, the rules around inventory are there so you get the joy of ignoring them."
