Frith is not a stakeholder, except in terms of reputation/legacy. It's actually a very easy position, to offer what amount to hunches, then affect a posture of detached objectivity & imply that your assertions, delivered with the force of historical authority, are in fact you 'just asking questions'

'Standing well away' is a privileged position available to people whose lives aren't directly impacted.
Postu gösterThe framing becomes: 'researcher with honours very amiably & urbanely makes claim'. 'But what about what this layperson says they *feel*?' 'That's not very scientific.' But there are substantive empirical & methodological objective that can & have been made. By academics & laypeople.
Postu gösterI looked this up online and found this blog. I like his suggestion that it could be a design error - the 8 should actually be 5 - as in 1752 the switch to the Gregorian calendar meant 11 lost days in March. I've had several months like that... www.patrickcomerford.com/2026/09/the-...

He has largely walked back the claims of the theory on which his name was made, because they turned out not to be correct. I mention Frith too. bsky.app/profile/timc...
