It's manipulative, but that's on top of the fact that he is (or at least, was) a big time Dem donor. So dude also has an inordinate amount of control over her "job" too. Elon buys Senators. Seems Turkish was trying to buy a Senator-with-Benefits.

This is exactly the kind of “crazy talking” I told my clients who were abuse victims to watch out for. “Everyone is so upset with you. You’ve disappointed everyone” is Manipulation 101. Not saying Stevens isn’t responsible for her own choices, but that kind of talk can be a powerful motivator.
