I truly believe most students do not want to use #GenAI to cheat or replace their cognition. When they succumb to its allure, it is in part because we have set up systems that make them feel like they cannot honestly succeed and/or the work is not useful. www.nytimes.com/2026/06/18/u...

"...let me put this more plainly: AI could be wrong about half the time." #GenAI changes quickly, but so far, I remain convinced it is most helpful when experts use it to do work in their field of expertise. In areas where people are not experts, the risks scale w/the severity of the consequences.

Both my kids are now students of Ms Helen, who also taught the parents of some of my kids' classmates, when *they* were kids She just told the youngest group a story about how when she goes skiing she gets real scared. Said it's quite normal to be scared when you try something new that is hard

lest anyone think responsive parenting is some hippy dippy new age BS, my 6yo has a wizened swim teacher who looks to be in her late sixties and when he got scared to jump in on his own and teared up she looked him in the eye and said in a quiet voice "I feel this way too when I try new things"
