Once those warning circuits disappear, implementation failures can be recoded as sabotage by bureaucrats or enemies. That lets the movement preserve the promise by blaming whoever has to carry it out.

"What will tariffs do to the economy?" was a question with a well-known objective answer, but nobody heard that answer on CNN because that would require them to say that one party is right and the other wrong.

They reply on intermediaries to tell them. Their intermediaries said, "Trump is a businessman" and "it'll be fine" so they thought it'd be fine.
Postu gösterBeing reasonably plugged in to the NeverTrump part of the coalition, you could watch the process by which conservative voices were one-by-one exiled, forced into retirement, or forced to reinvent themselves as Baghdad Bobs for MAGA, because those were the alternatives. So no one told them.
