Thx. My work on UUIDs v4/v7, was sparked by @jasminfluri.bsky.social , who wrote: medium.com/@jasminfluri... (and I'll repeat: dont put my code into your prod-system without thorough checking!! and preferably do not put/hide/use/depend on "info" in tech-keys) Feel free Discuss.
Postu gösterThat feeling you get when you see something that would have been really helpful six months ago. All the same, nice to see the process written up clearly. Thanks.
Postu gösterQuite nice this - and at a very high level it's kind-of mostly right. It's not what really happens when you look into it, but for 99.9% of people this is close enough to what happens. For the 0.1%, it's about time I wrote some new blog posts.
Postu gösterYou can still store infinities (and NaN) numbers in Oracle - but in a floating point number instead (vague details at the end of the blog) 😀
Postu gösterThis Smith/Smyth type issue is exaclty what Soundex (a function Oracle has provided for over 30 years, but is a generic function across many languages) addresses. This article goes further than that. Interesetingly, when I worked on patient admin systems, no one used the provided Soundex search.
