    We got up early and went to the Portland Japanese Garden to catch the end of peak season colors. This is famously “the tree” and it’s showing off a rainbow of color right now. What a treat.

    Friends, please don’t ask me for the pass to use a Yiddish word, especially given today’s context. + my loves: The idea that your ethnic / cultural stranger buddy on the internet should give you a pass to use a word / practice isn’t it. If you don’t have a friend irl to ask...That’s an answer too?

    It is telling that they find it hard to conceive of a word that refers to a member of an outgroup that isn't also a slur. It's similar to reaction some people have to "cis", actually.

    So much this. “Not everything is for everyone” is not a slur, like. … if you *want* to become a Jew truly truly there’s a process for that. (If you want to transition gender, well, ditto) But to not be centered & have it not mean you’re *lower than* breaks their hierarchical worldview entirely
