    I wanted to study Eng Lit at uni so I didn't ask to be moved. The head of English got me through my first year at uni with his teaching methods. I earned his respect. But didn't stop me from learning: nothing is ever anonymous; and you can still find a use for someone you dislike.

    I burst into tears and he apologised. But I think he really thought I needed to be taken down a peg or two (when I was just undiagnosed autistic). The next year I got timetabled into his class by accident for no good reason. He was a jerk...but he was also the best English teacher at the school.

    2) When I was at school I submitted an anonymous assessment of my English teachers where I assessed them separately rather than as one entity. I scored one a lot more highly than the other. The head of English called me into a classroom and treated me as though I was trying to bully the teacher.

    Two stories. 1) I was a server in church and organised the rota for the other servers. I was a kid organising adults and older kids. Due to confusion over times for a midnight mass (not my confusion) I ended up getting there late to a service where we had a guest vicar.

    On midnight, on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day. When nobody else could make it. I showed up, (it turned out) right before the service started, and the substitute vicar had a right go at me. I internalised the message that the true measure of a person is how they treat those over whom they have power.
