I took it in my fist and brought it down at him. It hit the top of his head. He BURST into tears and his mates scattered like marbles. I power-walked away, tripled back to lose any followers, waited two hours to be sure I lost them, then went home. ➡️

I could see he was shaking and that this was false bravado, but he still had a knife and was pointing it at me. I knew the other boys would just restrain me if I tried to flee, which would be a worse position. Ann's words came floating up to me from my memories. I knew my pencil was sharp. ➡️

I used to carry a pencil behind my ear. A member of the school's senior management team, Ann, who believed I was somehow orchestrating my own abuse, told me to stop - I'd "take someone's eye out" A few days later I was surrounded on my way home by some boys. One threatened me with his knife. ➡️
