    Let's be crystal clear: There is no explanation for the rise in submissions other than generative AI. This will create more labor for everyone involved and will decrease the quality of the scholarship at the conference and beyond.

    My book unpacks how social media platforms have become industrialized rumor mills and how they help spread conspiracies and rage bait at a speed that is, quite frankly, damaging. And since moderation efforts have disappeared as tech leaders cozy up to the alt-right, things are worse than ever.

    This is correct aesthetically but I have to be an annoying academic (™️) and note that people have looked for this effect for decades and can’t find or measure it. These games are creatively bankrupt but aren’t changing minds. FPS streamers and discords, though? Definitely avoid. They do damage.

    For sure. A few months back I ran this quick-and-dirty check on SCOPUS. This probably makes it appear worse than it is given its simplicity, but there is a 1:10 ratio of metas/reviews to non-reviews/metas in digital media use research. bsky.app/profile/doug...
