My take on it was also about having an ideologically proximate candidate in “factional primaries” where the nomination contest conferred legitimacy in the party as an institution/brand and thereby furthered attachment from the primary into the general. Compare that to eg the Corbynite left in Labour
Postu gösterI think this is exactly right and we’ve been seeing it for a few cycles, more so on the Democratic side. I touch on it a bit in my book but it’s definitely something we as a discipline could test further.
