I think it's fair to describe Vermeule's entire intellectual project as "How can I (unintentionally) make American conservatism politically irrelevant?" Everything he pushes shrinks the tent and tilts at windmills. He wants conservatism to become something basically no one but him likes at all.

Put another way, if American conservatism does in fact become "more substantive and forceful" in the precise ways Adrian Vermeule has in mind, it will probably never win another presidential election, and will have a difficult time winning a senate seat in all but a handful of states.

I'm hearing all these people talk about doing committee investigations, doing warmup impeachments, doing hearings, and it's like... guys. You can do all that stuff. But. The overarching message here is "Trump is an impossibly terrible president, he is ruining America, and we want him gone." SAY IT.
