Just finally had some time to catch up on podcasts. There is an excellent one with Jack Goldstone as a guest on Ologies with Alie Ward. It was a great objective take without being robotic or devoid of empathy. I'll probably listen to it again. @ologies.bsky.social @jgoldstone.bsky.social
Postu gösterTL;DR QR codes are terrible, and should go out of existence.
Postu gösterA tale of Washington DC spirit and solidarity. I was emerging last night from one of DC’s best pizza joints, a place called “2 Amys.” And I saw a lovely sight.
Postu gösterNot saying ideas don't matter (they're my business!) but material conditions set the stage. 1968 saw worldwide student uprisings with SOME worker support. But with most countries still growing in post-WWII boom there wasn't deep disillusion we see now. Your theory, Turchin's application makes clear.
Postu gösterWrong! In 1991 @jgoldstone.bsky.social published "Revolution and Rebellion in the Early Modern World" which didn't just aim to explain when revolution happen, but also when they didn't. Ignored at first, his materialist theory has been been robustly validated. www.taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/1...
