I remember when Gordon Brown cut 31,000 staff from the tax service and slashed the budget for fighting tax avoidance by 48%, to "save money". Cameron then cut HMRC by a further 15%. At the time, I remarked "It’s like cutting your household bills by deciding to stop commuting to work." Utter madness.

Sergey Brin is worth $284 billion. After the proposed one-time 5% wealth tax, he would have roughly $270 billion. If, after that loss, he spent $1 million every single day and never earned another cent, he would run out of money in the year 2766. Billionaires are an obscenity.
