    Notice of the firing came in “an email from Tina Jordan, editor of the Book Review, saying that Olivia’s clear sentiments about the Times mean that the paper is no longer a good fit for her column.” Wow. Can you imagine being that sensitive? And demanding complete and total loyalty? Very Trumpy.

    Waite’s statement is included below and it’s a good one. The NYT’s belief that opinions on the paper’s editorial standards can’t exist inside the publication only reveals the intellectual fragility and weakness of its leadership.

    This is infuriating on SO MANY LEVELS including the fact that having a romance columnist at ALL was astonishing in an era of declining books overall. Genre? Treating romance with respect? In this economy?!
