    she would at first be confused by someone offering her help and it would only cause more friction over time. she can do this herself? she doesn't need help? she's the one who helps out, other people can't just do it back! they won't mean it the way she does and that's Too Much To Handle

    ik esme is happy when dietrich says he'll shoulder half her burdens but i also *know* that it would cause such issues in practice. esme's out here w/ acts of service as a love language bc of insecure attachments and also being a Deeply independent person for the exact same reasons
