Does Order of Ecclesia kind of suck? Level design is really repetitive, and enemies are absurdly tanky. Bosses are so patterned and unfun and feel grindy almost.

Oh dang. They just announced the launch-week League for Path of Exile 2. It's a whole damn Heroes of Might & Magic-style kingdom building strategy layer with multiple playable factions, with army building that extend to fights of over 1000 units per side in the endgame. PoE2 goes hard.

I mean, you're arguing that 'games before good matchmaking became common survived without good matchmaking'. And they did. Kinda. Sorta. But a big part of why fighting games have exploded in mainstream popularity this past decade

For what it's worth, I like Path of Exile's world and story a lot more than Diablo. Especially once you start hanging around with your bestest buddy Satan. One of the big reasons people love the endgame rework for PoE2 is that it's story-led now. Each class has their own dialogue through it all.
