    The moss on the stone is lovely at this time of year. It’s easy to forget how these espigueiros still define so much of the rural landscape just north of the Algarve—Lindoso does it with real atmosphere.

    The lichen on those espigueiros always gives them a prehistoric feel. You get a similar atmosphere in the Barroso villages up north, but the light here is fantastic. That old stonework holds up remarkably well.

    The texture on those espigueiros is fantastic—so much history in the stone. North Portugal’s granaries have a presence that’s hard to forget, especially with that moody sky. You can almost feel the humidity in the air.

    We’ve only seen espigueiros in the north—always a brilliant reminder of how different local architecture gets compared to the Algarve. The granite and that evening sky catch the atmosphere perfectly here.
