Somewhat appropriately, Halloween is the deadline for informing my hollowed-out, zombie university whether I’ll accept a unilateral, uncompensated 50% cut to my salary and hours. The answer is no, and they already threatened to terminate me if I refuse. I’ll see them in court.
Postu gösterStopped in at @chaptersbookstore.bsky.social after seeing the wonderful Ghosts film, and there’s only some Peter Underwood for me. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES? ON HALLOWEEN? #spookybooks *odds very much in my favour, tbh…
Postu gösterAs we lead up to Halloween, the Hay Festival have released a recording of my festival-exclusive event, Haunted Hay! It was a spine-chilling evening of paranormal investigation into Hay-on-Wye. I also did live readings proving the power literature has to haunt us… Watch it here: tinyurl.com/6mnw7bmd
Postu gösterToday is the last week of full-time pay for me. Next week my university will unilaterally break my 1.0FTE contract and only pay me 0.5 of my salary, and I go to a tribunal for unlawful wage deduction. If I don't accept, they say they'll make me redundant - a straightforward unfair dismissal.
Postu gösterI mentioned the Lycurgus Cup in my recently released kids' science book, The Future is Nano. The glass, made over 1600 years ago, has nanoparticles of gold suspended in it, which change the colour depending on the light source. It's fascinating.
