Had to ditch my otherwise perfectly decent 5 yr old MacBook Air for same reason. Have to wonder if the AI bros realised a while back that everyone running open weight models on own hardware destroys their IPO hopes and dreams, and are therefore actively hoarding all the RAM and processors?

Not sure what the pricing is like but get a decent sized VM on a hyperscaler and put Ubuntu desktop on it and just use that as remote desktop... means you can resize as you need it... Electron is the bane of these applications... huge footprint but single build

"The hardware will sort it out" has been struggling for quite a few years and it's getting worse. 8GB should not struggle with an OS, mail client, browser, office apps and a glorified video chat yet it does
