Or giving both Dem & GOP congressional officials enough to support a legislative fight with the White House? My hunch is it’s worth pursuing Trump as a cheaper option first. As a Canadian, I would not be all-in for a DNC rescue package to 0% tariffs.

Dems would need ~11 GOP in Senate and ~33 in House. To get those, I’ll bet Canada would need to be seen to have given up something so GOP defectors have wins to claim if Trump won’t. So, what’s more costly to Canada? Giving Trump enough to declare victory & move on? 2/n

Currently watching Sen Welch (D, Vermont) talk about reaching across the aisle to put legislation on Trump’s desk to “end the tariffs on Canada”, but he’s also seemingly willing to live with a presidential veto if need be. In current seat counts (including projections), 1/n

Addendum - the DNC 2028 presidential campaign is underway. Sometimes you win by losing (ie: give us all 3 houses because these guys can’t work with us). It doesn’t mean you really actually want the substantive win.
