    Even in finance & professional services, taking on more clients or projects is a labour-intensive step. These are relational businesses, and worker-level efficiencies may not translate into topline efficiencies. Software is in that sense is more like manufacturing than most other services.

    If we move away from how individual workers do their jobs to how firms turn inputs into outputs: software output and revenues can expand independently of headcount in a way that’s much less true for other types of knowledge work.

    But I think there’s another thing, too. The fact that we see more action specifically in software than other AI-using jobs and sectors suggests we should think about disruption risk less as a pure function of the individual tasks in a job, and more about how a broader business/sector operates:
