    Important to remember: people were REALLY sensitive about guns in the wake of 9/11. Even Gundam Seed, which aired late at night, had to replace its pistols with neon-tubed laser blasters. This wasn't just 4Kids, this was post-9/11 culture at work.

    If I recall correctly from a source who worked for Bandai at the time, Cartoon Network was worried about how often minors used handguns in the show. SEED was designed to be a fresh start for Gundam in Japan and America. But once it exploded in the former, execs quickly told the crew to instead-
