I was raised IFB because my mom was, but my dad's whole family is Catholic. It was quite an experience as a child hearing adults openly debate whether Catholics like my dad & grandma were going to hell. I'm not a Catholic, but I so appreciate that they don't presume to know who is going to hell.

💯 Predestination seems so cruel. It seems so contrary to the spirit of the word. Jesus answered almost every question with a parable, rather than a direct cut & dried answer, so why would they think that the key to salvation was getting the exact right answers to some kind of theological pop quiz?

It seems clear enough to me that there aren't as many clear answers as these people think, and God expects us to weigh our actions & decisions against the greatest commandment, stumbling along just trying to do our best. IMHO, my Catholic grandma is a great Christian, & so was my late Baptist mom.

I am biased but my Paternal Episcopal priest grandpa and my maternal LDS bishop grandpa were both good people. Though the LDS one was a bit racist at times. Let some things slip the last couple of years.
