Ver postNot in principle but in practice when it's being driven by a group of Bay Area cultists who (de-facto) want the entire field destroyed forever I am extremely unsympathetic to it. I don't think we have the social technology for a pause, only a ban. Would love to be wrong about that though.
Ver postPotentially? But that's what I mean. We're talking "international treaty" + interesting questions about enforceability. We're not talking "local ballot initiative," or even "US Congress declares a moratorium."
Ver postAmericans like to discuss AI as if it were a domestic cultural/PR issue ("what's the public opinion of data centers"). But imo it's a global economic (and, alas, security) issue—a much larger thing. Issues that size are not impossible to steer, but they turn very slowly.
