My beef was always that Google forced Webp on the Internet, and didn't bother to provide accessible tools to create or convert Webp. It took years for all browsers and graphics tools to even start to include Webp support (usually read-only); Notably Adobe products still do not support Webp export.

webp has smaller file sizes at the same quality as png. what is the problem? just that some older applications don't support it?

Yeah everyone talks about IG as if it’s such a big boost to finding work but is it really? What are the actual numbers to back that up? Or is it more likely that art directors just want to keep using something that is most familiar to them and convenient.
