    The one thing that remains the most true is that people hate feeling like they're being marketed to, and literally nothing screams "marketers are marketing to you" more than a giant corporation expecting you to be excited about an abstract swirl shape they spent months optimizing for marketability.

    The thing is, I believe wholeheartedly that on the scale of large, well-established corporations like this, brand-level marketing theory is almost entirely pseudoscience. The big corpos trudge along from sheer inertia. Investing another several million into optimizing your swirl doesn't do anything.

    There was a huge team effort to ponder an absolute fuckload of designs and then to iterate on minor variations of the design. Someone spent a month of their life finalizing a report on how the shape language of the final swirl communicated the corporation's core values.
