Hollie - swooping is bad

Nerdy little soul. Usually to be found with nose stuck in book, occasionally emerges from lair to fangirl. Warning: opinionated. Aspires to be, as Mhairi McFarlane once put it, "a menace in polka dots."

So the Attorney General (for the prosecution) is applying for “leave to refer the sentence as unduly lenient”. Essentially asking the Court of Appeal to increase it. For those interested in the arguments, they centre around the legal nuances of knife offences and minimum terms for murder.

Vickrum Digwa, murderer of Henry Nowak, has been granted permission to appeal against his sentence. Which means a judge has ruled that the argument has merit. It doesn’t mean he will win. Not least because the prosecution say the judge got it wrong in the other direction - the sentence was too low.
