    As a trans woman who is also a journalist, hard agree. Culture war implies frivolity. What LGBTQ+ and specifically trans people are fighting for have lost in places like Texas is their ability to identify, to have accurate documents, to use the bathroom, to participate in society as they choose.

    I wish reporters would retire the "culture war" shorthand, which shaves the hard edges off reality. "Culture war" signals meaningless sideshow, obscuring the reality: This was a campaign to roll back the civil rights of LGBTQ students, whitewash history lessons, attack academic freedom, etc, etc
