    It *is* arc for regular trig functions precisely because it does produce arc length. But the *hyperbolic* trig functions aren’t defined using arc length.

    Also, “ar” could mean “argument” in the sense that arfun(x) could tell you what the argument of fun(x) is for output x.

    Just want to note that with hyperbolic trig it’s ar because the argument of the hyp trig functions is an area davidkbutler.xyz/2014/06/22/w...
