    and i think there oughta be more room for the idea that a story that isn't afraid to let you guess an outcome, whether your guess is right or wrong, is still a good story. and that character dynamics/emotional beats can count as "good story" just as much as objective plot twists/Events do

    to be clear, i think a lot of shows that take this tack are very very good, and i don't think it's cheap or easy to write a breakneck, constantly surprising story. but the current standard kinda requires you to be a lil braver/confident if your story lets people marinate for a long time on one idea

    imo one effect of modern prestige TV is it's conditioned audiences to think a "good" story has to constantly surprise you with new plot reveals every episode, staying unpredictable by not allowing enough time between reveals to let viewer theories marinate for too long before dashing them
