    As we're learning (again) in Washington state that all the zoning changes in the world won't fix anything that's driving these issues. Until we fix finance we will not move the needle on housing. They're directly tied together.

    This is better for the real economy that builds private market housing too. The builders, contractors, designers, engineers, suppliers, workers, etc. Their work life has been degraded by the FIRE sector too. As our affordability has degraded, their work lives have too.

    This will allow us to eliminate much public spending on Affordable housing subsidies to private financiers that drives up costs. We can instead use public spending to reduce costs and use public finance to reduce credit driven inflation and financial profit in market housing.

    There's no path to these modest goals without a dramatic rebalancing of the FIRE sector share of the economy and displacing the role it plays in the price administration of housing. We need to take public control of the public credit system and build non market social housing.

    In order for everyone to be free from housing precarity we need metrics and goals. That means no one without a home, rents at no more than 20% of income, and homes of all typologies people can afford to buy with price to income ratios around 1:2.
