Brilliant.
Ver postThe nice thing about Dennison specifically is how minimal it is. Commons and Lords keep their roles, FPTP constituency voting just shifts house. I think it has the feeling of historical consistency that would ease traditionalist camps, while actually having a dramatically better outcome.
Ver postInteresting, what do you think has shifted on Lords reform? Or is it a question of both chambers at once being too radical? My worry is that Commons only reform is a bit of a sea of sub-optimal choices and people will pick up on that. To me the AV+ campaign had a tone of “this isn’t perfect, but…”
Ver postThe best reform proposal I’ve seen is from @jamesrdennison.bsky.social; reform both chambers at once, Lords (Senate) becomes constituency based, Commons is pure party list PR. Tidily keeps the constituency link but shifts house, MPs focus on national legislation only: cadmus.eui.eu/entities/pub...
Ver postUpdating my slide-deck for tomorrow's internal-party-politics class. I suspect the gap between member-sourced and donor-sourced income will be dwarfed for Reform when I repeat this task in a years' time and the Ben Delo donation appears in the 2026 accounts filing.
