Ver postI'm a bit puzzled by these large declines in diversity in common species. Yes, there numbers have declined but losing 40% of species diversity in 20 generations would imply Ne's on the order of 10s. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
Ver postMy very pragmatic answer is: "an independently evolving lineage that reproduces predominantly within itself, and shows distinct seperation from other lineages in one or more non-genetic traits. The more of these secondary traits show clear divergence, the more confident you can be."
Ver postMy lab’s response to the rise of LLMs over the past three or so years has not been to churn out larger numbers of papers. It has been to push that churn away and focus on artisanal production of a few science ideas and manuscripts (as we did before). I hope that turns out to be the right decision!
Ver postMy H-index (at Google Scholar) is 38. That's within the typical range for a full professor at an R1 institution. Some people have smaller numbers, many bigger. But I tend to have a small group and we do not usually publish in big collaborations. So compared to some colleagues, it's on the lower end.
