    Saw ‘The Librarians’ this evening, a powerful, deeply disturbing documentary about book banning, and worse, and it is so relevant to the election tomorrow in the States. I watched with such intense respect and gratitude for librarians everywhere, especially those in schools. Front line warriors.

    I absolutely think it’s worth having people who *have had* a variety of life experience in a legislature. But you can have that and not act like being a skilled legislator is bad.

    And understanding what information it’s valuable to get from advocates/lobbyists, versus what information you’re better off getting from your own research staff. And knowing how to create compromise legislation that can pass. These are skills, as in any job.

    I don’t really think “not a politician” should be a selling point for a candidate. The job is politician. I want to elect someone who understands that job and is good at it and also is not a dirtbag. We have seen how catastrophic it is to make “not a politician” the priority over “not a dirtbag.”

    Indeed. And it’s so telling that progressives keep getting urged to “find common cause with RFK Jr & his MAHA movement.” How do you find “common cause” with a man who says he wants to remove Black kids from their families & “reparent” them in camps? Who has spent decades peddling dangerous eugenics?
