Let me tell you about Russell Brand, as someone who helped the journalists who eventually exposed him. In 2013/4, Brand started to become interested in progressive politics. He said progressive things publicly, went on Newsnight etc. At the time I was involved in progressive grassroots work myself.

Ver postIf your representative is wavering on something important to you, by all means call their office and tell them to do the right thing. Constituent pressure can show that it’s safe to vote the “right” way and a release isn’t needed. But it’s not automatically a betrayal when they don’t.
Ver postThe large majority means that there will be more room to release unneeded votes. It will happen, because that’s how legislative politics works. It’s a really good thing that there is so much room to do this, because it gives them a lot of flexibility about who to release on which votes.
