i cleared Labyrinth Runner / Trick Trap: 1771 on the hardest difficulty with no deaths! it's so short and easy that i didn't get any of the satisfaction i usually get from clearing an arcade game, but i had fun nonetheless. it has some very interesting ideas too! www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6oX...

To clarify, the issue isn't with the devs at all but how the changes are perceived as improvements and not sidesteps. Limitations are often what make the original games so interesting. Chess where every piece moves like a queen isn't really chess, even if all the pieces look the same as before.

I think this is common enough now that you could call it a phenomenon, where the defining limitations of a classic game are removed, and players call it an "improvement" on "clunky" mechanics and controls. IMO the mechanics define games as much if not more than the themes or aesthetic vibe.
