    I just don't think "impressed the guys, who all came from the same three grad programs, at the niche seminar" is the ONLY efficacy proof point the world ever needs idk. Occupational awe is such a distortion to fully understanding these different parts of the world as they are, good and bad.

    Another interesting thing to talk to ex-academics about is how much the narrative is academia is where the Rigor and Real Standards live, but so often, it's *our work* that has to pass tests in the real world. And so much of the time we draw on academic work and find it doesn't generalize etc
