As someone who does a little talk on the Romantics and Satan every couple of semesters, I’m finding this whole thing fascinating and embarrassing at second hand.

Don't get me wrong, there are also MANY incredible films & shows being made now. And there has *always* been mediocrity, & laziness- sometimes those can be very fun! But this is a particular combination of these elements in a very particular style that suddenly seems de rigueur and I don't like it.

There is an increasing number of writing in shows & movies that is just, BAD. Contrived &/or exposition heavy; explaining everything, even when obvious; characters behave only to serve the plot- even when their behavior is absurd; LAZY & DUMB writing without nuance, subtlety, or elegance. Annoying.
