    And I think some of that slow erosion is, at the point where you're at 60/40 on approval, you're cutting into folks who are temperamentally very conservative and have some personal identification with the Red Team and it takes slow, steady pressure to get them to give that up.

    And then you just get into this pattern of steady erosion, though notice that 'erosion' begins from a position that is already *bad* - *most* Americans soured on Trump in the first three months. Then you're slowly peeling off hard cases, bit by bit, month by month.

    The start of the Iran War and the collapse of the MOU aren't even really that visible on that chart. Instead, you've got an approve+12 to disapprove+8 (*twenty* point swing) in the first three months, which I imagine is the folks who reacted extremely negatively to specific policies.

    One of the claims I keep seeing is "nobody minded Trump until gas prices went up" and certainly that marginal voter exists, but on the whole that is not quite right - after an initial crash, his numbers have ticked down at a steady, regular rate. People started losing patience before gas prices.
