    The Collegium Musicum (a music student ensemble) played in the coffeehouse of Gottfried Zimmermann since 1720, and Bach conducted them from 1729 to 1739. The concerts stopped with Zimmermann's death in 1741. Despite being forbidden to frequent coffehouses, women could attend these public concerts.

    Nowadays, it's rare to hear Bach's music live outside of a concert hall. However, if you visited Leipzig in the 1730s and gone to Café Zimmermann, you would have had the chance to see a free live concert by the Collegium Musicum twice a week; conducted by Bach himself and featuring his latest works!
