    Ultimately, though, I think the feedback has to come from the audience. They'll respond to losing money, but they won't respond to losing artistic quality. By the way, if you watch that Vonnegut video, he talks about how one of the greatest plots of all time--Hamlet--doesn't fit these shapes at all.

    Alas, that has already been happening for quite some time.     fair enough! I wasn't talking about quality, just mass appeal. I mentioned explicitly that critics don't care for any particular plot (nor do awards committees). In terms of statistical artifacts, let me know if you have any specific bias in mind there.
