    Can Gabbard flip a Senate seat in Hawaii? Likely not. Is she the best chance the GOP has—and maybe will _ever_ have? Yes. Is that a likely consideration for Gabbard bizarrely claiming she never plans to give up Hawaii residency? Yes. Will she likely end up back in elective politics in Hawaii? Yes.

    If one doesn’t understand this, one could easily see all this as anodyne (as in, “Oh, if she wanted to help Trump with her vote, she would’ve voted in Texas, not Hawaii!”) That’s a misunderstanding of why this is a scandal. For _political reasons_ of _great import_, Gabbard committed voter fraud.

    Perhaps media should look at possible motivations here? Gabbard isn’t a _real_ Texan—and the Texas GOP doesn’t need her—so her residency declaration there (likely a fraud) was to save money. The reason she needs to remain a _Hawaii_ voter is Trump and the GOP think she can flip a Senate seat there.
