so i more or less feel the exact same around resolution mechanics and imo the reason the external dcs have bad game feel because they are wholly arbitrary in context of d20 systems with gms. It's asking the gm to make up a number that doesn't have much of a player facing reason to be that number.

I hadn't thought of this and it makes perfect sense to me. A fixed roll-over TN feels arbitrary to me because I passively expect numbers to represent something. Rolling under 14 STR, that 14 represents their strength. Rolling over a static 12, that 12 represents... what?
