    I remember writing a character and thinking, "I wouldn't want to be as bitter and jaded as her." But I've found that in some ways, she represents the worst parts of me. I'm angrier than I used to be, and I find I'm very capable of being cynical or distrustful, or wanting to lash out at the world.

    What's really fun is when you realize your characters reflect parts of yourself, but you weren't consciously doing that. I have a character who doesn't know what he's doing, is indecisive and second-guesses himself, sort of blunders though everything, and it occurred to me that I'm a lot like him.
