    51 men were lost from Laurentic and 56 from Patroclus, including her captain, Gerald Wynter. The survivors were during the morning of 4 November by destroyers Hesperus and Beagle. The court of enquiry criticised both captains for risking their ships by incautiously entering a known danger area.
